Bangladesh Celebrates Bring Your Parent to Work Day
Bangladesh today celebrated its Annual Bring Your Parent to Work Day.
The national holiday covers the roughly 12% of Bangladeshi children, aged 5 to 14, who work in a range of labour intensive jobs across the country.
Child labourers work primarily in agriculture, textiles and domestic sectors - industries that adults are reluctant to work in given their disinclination towards low pay, dangerous working conditions and employer exploitation.
Early reports indicate that most parents had left their children's workplace by lunchtime having had enough of carrying heavy loads, spraying pesticides and sewing dresses.
The children, who do not get lunchbreaks, could not be reached for comment.
